Procedures to follow during the PSAT/NMSQT administration
During the test please follow the steps below as you administer the PSAT/NMSQT.
Distributing test materials to students
· Remove the test materials from the plastic bags and give one test book and one answer sheet to each student. Keep one answer sheet and one test book for use in giving instructions.
· Make sure that no one opens a test book until told to do so.
· Allow enough time for students to read the information on the front cover.

· To facilitate return of test books with score reports in December:
o Have students put additional information (e.g., homeroom) under their name on the test book cover. They are given back their test booklet when the results come back.

Student information requested on the answer sheet
The PSAT/NMSQT answer sheet asks students about their:
· Grade average for all academic subjects
· Racial/ethnic group
· Language background
· Desire to participate in Student Search Service® (SSS®)
· Religion
· College major

Encourage your students to sign up for Student Search Service by selecting this option on the PSAT/NMSQT answer sheet, so they can take advantage of this convenient and easy way to learn more about their college opportunities.

Some of the information that students provide will help the College Board ensure that tests are fair for all groups. Some of it can help colleges, universities, nonprofit educational opportunity organizations, and some scholarship programs provide relevant information for college planning.
The section on the answer sheet marked "Questions to Determine Entry to National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) Programs" must be completed in order for NMSC to determine if students meet requirements to enter its scholarship programs. This applies to all JUNIORS.

Reading the script
· Read aloud all the directions printed in bold within the boxes.
· Read slowly enough to give students time to fill in their identifying information. Pause wherever four dots appear to allow students time to follow instructions.
· Instructions outside boxes are for you and should not be read aloud. Do not deviate from these directions or answer any questions regarding the content of the test.
· DO NOT TRANSLATE THE INSTRUCTIONS OR QUESTIONS AT ANY POINT DURING TESTING. THIS IS A VIOLATION OF THE COLLEGE BOARD.

Calculator use
These points serve as additional reminders:
· Although each math question can be answered without a calculator, a scientific or graphing calculator is permitted and recommended.
· Sharing calculators is not permitted.
· Calculators with QWERTY (typewriter-like) keypads, with paper tape, that make noise or "talk," or that require an electrical outlet are prohibited.
· Students can be dismissed from the test and their scores can be canceled if they use prohibited calculators.

During the test
Walk around the room frequently to make sure that all students are:
· Working on the correct section of the test
· Marking answers in the appropriate section of the answer sheet
· Using calculators on math sections only

Be alert and attentive at all times while students are testing and during breaks. Do not read, grade papers, or perform any other activity not directly related to administering the test.

Breaks
There will be a 5-minute break after Section 2 and a short 1-minute stretch break after Section 4. Cell phones must remain turned off during breaks.
During the 5-minute break, students may go to the restroom, but under no circumstances should large groups of test-takers be allowed to leave the room.
During the break, ensure that students do not:

· Leave the test room without permission
· Remove test materials from the room
· Look at the test
· Use a telephone
·
Text Box: Coaches will monitor restrooms and halls. Do not leave a test room or test materials unattended.

Steps to take after the PSAT/NMSQT
After testing is complete, testing administrators should follow the steps below:
1. Collect test materials.
· Collect an answer sheet and test book from each student.
· Count the materials to make sure you have one answer sheet and one test book from every student.
· Check that school codes and grade levels have been filled in correctly. Take the time to flip through answer sheets to make sure students gridded their grade levels and school codes properly. This is critical for the accuracy of your school's reports.

2. Return test materials to Michael Heidelberg, Stacy Slomko or Marlin Guzman who will be in the hallways on the third floor to collect materials.
After testing is complete and the materials have been counted, sorted and returned, please:

· Thank students for their cooperation and inform them that they will be heading to period 4 once the rooms are dismissed.
· Remind students about test security—students may not discuss the test until they receive their score reports in December

Hello!

The presentation regarding the PSAT administration should take approximately 5 minutes. If you would prefer me to come see you during the day (common planning, lunch, prep, duty) to quickly go over your responsibilities, I would be happy to accommodate. Please let me know your preference ASAP.

Have a great day!
~Rebecca

Subject: PSAT testing administration

Good morning!

You have been selected to administer the PSAT during periods 1-4 on October 14. All sophomores at PAHS will be tested and approximately 125 juniors. All testing will take place on the third floor during these periods. There will be a very brief overview of your role as the testing administrator on Monday, October 12 after 8th period and again after 9th period in the auditorium. As per administration, you will need to attend one of these training sessions.

Coaches will provide relief during periods 2-4 should you require a quick break. If you have a 4th period lunch, I have arranged for someone to cover your testing room so you can eat at your normal time. All of you will be trained accordingly so this goes off as smoothly as possible. This is a huge undertaking and I appreciate your support!

If you have any questions, please email me!

Dear Teachers,

The third floor has been selected as a testing site for the PSAT Exam. We will be seeking your cooperation to help this event run smoothly. Unfortunately, periods 1-3 classes must be reassigned to temporary locations. The tentative schedule and assignments for freshman at the Main Campus are described below:

• Students will come to the cafeteria for breakfast at 7:30
• Period 2, students will have a meeting with their class advisor in the auditorium
• Period 3, students will watch a movie with assignment
